Product Safety
Approach to Product Safety
Based on our corporate principle of "The Customer Matters Most," the PPIH Group is committed to helping support the lives of local customers and providing them with the enjoyment of shopping, while contributing to a sustainable society through its core business of general retailing.
The PPIH Group's stores sell a wide range of products including food, daily necessities, apparel, cosmetics, toys, and home appliances. Among these products, PB/OEM products are an important product group that respond to diverse customer needs and provide original value in terms of price, quality, functions, and design. At the same time, as the Group is involved in the planning and development of these products, we recognize that ensuring quality and safety is an important responsibility that underpins customer trust.
The PPIH Group works with relevant departments and business partners to manage quality and safety according to product characteristics throughout the process, from planning and development of PB/OEM products to selection of manufacturing contractors, manufacturing processes, and post-sale response. In addition to complying with laws, regulations, and standards, we aim to provide products that customers can enjoy purchasing with confidence by continuously improving quality and ensuring safety from the customer's perspective.
In the event any quality or safety concern involving a product is identified, relevant departments promptly work together to investigate the cause, prevent recurrence, provide appropriate information to customers, and take necessary measures such as immediately suspending in-store sales, recalling the product, reporting to authorities, posting a notice on the website, and establishing a customer service contact point. As a company that contributes to customers' lives through products, we will continue to strengthen our product safety initiatives.
Product Safety Management Framework
The MD Development Division, which oversees each product category, is responsible for planning and developing PB/OEM products. The PB Quality Improvement Section, established under the SPA Promotion Department, reviews customer feedback and store reports and works with the MD Development Division to improve and enhance product quality.
The Quality Control Department has been established under the Compliance Promotion Division and is responsible for product quality management and safety checks across the entire product portfolio, including NB products. The Quality Control Department also reviews customer feedback and store reports and, as needed, works with the MD Development Division and PB Quality Improvement Section to identify and respond to quality issues.
The Quality Control Department reports important quality and safety concerns to the Compliance Committee, which leads to cross-organizational responses and the consideration of measures to prevent recurrence.
In this way, the MD Development Division, Quality Control Department, and PB Quality Improvement Section use customer feedback and store reports as a shared information platform and work together based on the same information to improve product safety.
Past Initiatives
Quality Standards for PB/OEM Products
- -In 2024, we established quality standards for each product category.
- -Since 2024, we have held training sessions twice a year for PB/OEM suppliers to improve quality.
- -We conduct compliance training on product management for all employees.
Quality Audits of Manufacturing Contractors
- -We conduct quality audits of newly contracted manufacturing factories and factories with quality issues.
- -Quality audits are conducted on site directly by PB Quality Improvement Section staff. In some cases, we outsource this work to external inspection agencies.
In 2024, we conducted 154 quality audits (112 non-food and 42 food), of which 9 did not pass (8 non-food and 1 food). In 2025, we conducted 263 audits (178 non-food and 85 food), of which 17 did not pass (17 non-food and 0 food); 1 of these 17 factories passed after a follow-up audit. When a factory does not pass, we take measures such as changing the contracted factory or discontinuing commercialization of the product.
