Sales of safe and secure agricultural products by GLOBALG.A.P
-Delivering safe and secure Japanese products to our customers
As a "Japan Brand Specialty Store", the Group's DON DON DONKI overseas stores provide a wide range of safe and secure products in cooperation with many producers and local governments in order to deliver high quality Japanese products to our customers overseas.
As one of our efforts, we encourage farms to obtain "GAP" certification, which certifies that they are producing food products with consideration for food safety, the work environment, and environmental conservation.
In particular, we give priority to products produced on farms that have acquired GLOBALG.A.P. Certification, an international certification for farms that implement global standards for food safety and sustainable production management, including consideration for the environment and labor safety, and deliver reliable products from producers who have met strict standards to our overseas customers. As of June 2022, we were handling agricultural products (Cabbage, Onions, Carrots, Chinese Cabbage, etc.) from about 50 farms that have acquired "GLOBALG.A.P." certification, and we will continue to expand the range of products we handle and promote our initiatives.
Supporting marine ecosystem conservation and sustainable aquaculture Hinase Satoumi Project
Our group supports the "Hinase Satoumi Project", an initiative for sustainable Oyster farming promoted by the Hinase Town Fishery Cooperative Association and Tokai Sea Pro Corporation in the Hinase fishing grounds in Okayama Prefecture.
In order to make Oyster farming sustainable, we have been working since 1985 to restore the ama seaweed beds, which play an important role in the fish ecosystem, with the responsibility of returning the sea, where the number of fish has decreased due to the red tide (non-nutritive sea) caused by the decrease of ama seaweeds (*), to a fish-friendly sea and also to leave a clean sea for the next generation.
*Ama seaweed has the ability to purify the water quality.
[Creating an appropriate environment for Oyster farming]
- (1)Thoroughly control the size, number, and spacing of rafts in order to prevent overcrowding
- (2)Remove all rafts after Oyster harvesting
- (3)Clean the seafloor and reset the sea
- (4)Raise new first-year Oysters
The Oyster shucking plant for Hinase's single-year Oysters sold in the Group's stores has acquired the international certification FSSC22000, a standard approved as one of the food safety certification schemes, to ensure that all hygiene, quality control, and process control are excellent and deliver world-class standards of safety and security.
