Shinichiro Akagi

Shinichiro Akagi is Managing Executive Officer and the Vice President & Representative Director of Don Quijote Co., Ltd. After a career of being deeply involved in the world of sports, he wanted to test his mettle in a company where victory and defeat are clearly defined. He was charmed by Don Quijote, which judges people completely on their merits (a meritocracy) rather than their career, and joined the company in 2003.
He was made an area category leader in 2005, and the general manager of the Hokuriku and Shinetsu branches in 2009. In 2014, he became the director and vice-president of Nagasakiya, and served as an executive officer of the former Don Quijote Holdings in 2018, before being appointed as head of Sales Headquarters and Tokyo Metropolitan Area Sales Headquarters in 2019. He has refined his ability to come up with solutions to issues in both small and large stores.
He strives to apply The Source's practices and to always carry out his work with a modest attitude, inspired by the idea that "it is people that create profits." In addition, from his experiences in sport, he is always meticulous about results when carrying out his job, emphasizing clear aims and an overwhelming amount of practice to meet them.
As an executive officer and the president of Nagasakiya Company, he is in charge of Nagasakiya's business; he also serves as the president (newly appointed) of Nagasakiya Co., Ltd. and a director of Don Quijote Co., Ltd. His focus is on the creation of an organization that will increase the number of store owners with business spirit, and the creation of business formats for large and small stores.

His favorite, most-quoted parts of The Source are Six Precepts of Our Management Philosophy no. 2: "In every age, we create shop floors that evoke the anticipation and excitement of finding astonishingly cheap goods." and Ten Precepts Relating to Employee Mindset and Conduct no. 5: "Make others the subject of the sentence so you can talk from their perspective."

He was born in Kanagawa Prefecture in 1979.
