Satoshi Machida

Satoshi Machida is a Managing Executive Officer and the Head of Asia Business. He joined Don Quijote Co., Ltd. in 1998. From 2006, he mainly served as the general manager of branches in the Kansai area, and in 2017 he became the head of West Japan Sales Headquarters. Since 2018, his activities have taken him overseas for business, and he is currently demonstrating his abilities in our overseas affiliates as president of PPRM (Pan Pacific Retail Management) (Asia).
In his previous job, Mr. Machida worked in a wholesalers, but he began looking for a career change because he wanted to work in the retail industry, closer to consumers. He received unofficial offers from a number of companies, but he felt that ours was the one with the best prospects for the future, which inspired him to join our company.
After he joined the company, he started as a member of the opening staff of our Kasai store. He was responsible for 5MD (brands) and 4MD (food), before moving to the Chiba area and serving as a block leader and a store manager for 6MD (apparel). Following this, he set up the former Minato-Yamashita store and the Yokosuka store as a store manager, and was in charge of Kasai, Kannanaumejima, and Omiya as a general store manager. As the company expanded across Japan, he was made responsible for Kansai, and he established almost all our stores in West Japan (not including Kyushu). Taking note of increased inbound demand, he established an inbound store representing Japan, with a focus on the Namba area. After this, he spent a year as the head of MEGA Don Quijote West Japan Sales Headquarters, and was then transferred to Singapore. He was responsible for the establishment of DON DON DONKI in Thailand and Hong Kong.
When it comes to his work, he is always aware of price-performance ratios and effort vs. effectiveness, and is exacting about results. He is an indispensable presence when it comes to new projects, as he has established new store formats and promoted development in localities where we are setting up branches for the first time.

His favorite, most-quoted parts of The Source are Six Precepts of Our Management Philosophy no. 4: "We are committed to creative destruction and the ability to adapt; we reject pre-established harmony and the hesitancy to do anything that might rock the boat," and Ten Precepts Relating to Employee Mindset and Conduct no. 5: "Make others the subject of the sentence so you can talk from their perspective."

He was born in Chiba Prefecture in 1968.
